Best Products for Virgin Hair

You have invested money in your Indian Virgin hair Extensions and you want to care for it so that you can get your money’s worth from it! The hair has to be well taken care of because as you know it is not growing from your head so it is not getting the oils and nutrients from your scalp. Read our article about caring for your hair extensions here.

I have Indian Virgin Hair that has served me well over two years and it is all because I got virgin hair in the first place and then  I made an effort to care for my virgin hair! In this article we have presented a list of the best products for  virgin hair. All the products listed here are basically inexpensive and can be bought on Amazon.

My hair care routine includes the following

Deep Conditioning

I will now examine each one so that you will get a better understanding of what you should look for and how the particular product will help you and how to choose the best products for virgin hair.

Best Products for Virgin Hair – Shampoos!

You will need to wash your hair extensions regularly and I am vouching for once per week. Remember, product build up on your hair extensions can result in them looking dull and weighed down so you have to wash as regularly as possible. You want to use Sulfate free Shampoos. Sulfate is a harsh chemical that will dry out your hair extensions leaving them brittle and tangled. Brush before bed and before washing to ensure there are no natural occurring tangles caused by wind or friction

To shampoo your hair, you will want to follow the following steps:

1.Do not brush wet hair as that is when hair follicles are at their most vulnerable.

2.Use an Organic and sulfate free shampoo. Sulfate strips hair of natural oils, as there is no direct supply of nutrients from your scalp into the extension strands, its vital that you use a no sulfate shampoo to avoid your hair becoming dry and brittle. Sulphate free shampoos might not be so easy to find.

The following are my sulfate free recommendations. As I said before all products listed here can be bought on Amazon and are relatively inexpensive:

OGX Nourishing Organ Oil Shampoo

Best Products for Virgin Hair
Best Products for Virgin Hair

OGX Nurishing  Coconut Milk Shampoo

Carol’s Daughter Shampoo

If you have any problems at all finding them, you can use a moisture based shampoo which although contains  sulphate will add moisture to your virgin extensions

Tresemme Luxurious Moisture Shampoo

Suave Essentials Shampoo Tropical Coconut

To avoid damaging the hair extensions, the cuticles and your scalp, only wash with warm water.

Wash the hair gently in a downward motion with your palms, do not scrub or bunch the hair together as this will cause open cuticles to rub against each other causing friction.

Rinse between each wash, and wash only 1-2 times.

While the hair is wet, add 2-3 drops of natural oil such as Argan or Coconut by gently applying it evenly over the hair, these oils will penetrate the cuticles and add moisture to hair extensions

Finally, lower the shower head and rinse your hair (not scalp) with cold water, this is known as an Arctic Rinse  it will close the cuticles to lock the moisture and nutrients from the oil in, leaving you with nutrient rich hair extensions.

Let your hair air-dry at home, take 2-3 hours to wash and naturally dry your hair – Do not use heat as this will swell and dry your strands.

Apply a small amount of Argan, or Coconut oil 2-3 times a week or when required. Argan oil is a great finishing oil for styling and frizz, however it is a dry oil and does not moisturise the hair. I  like Coconut oil for this.

For long lasting hair extensions, moisturise your hair as you do your skin, it makes perfect sense.

This video will show you how you will wash your virgin hair extensions. Although I am promoting Indian virgin hair, this routine applies to any virgin hair.

Best Products for Virgin Hair – Conditioners!

Like the sulfate based shampoos, stay away from sulfate based conditioners. This will not be difficult since shampoos always come with matching conditioners

I am recommending the following Conditioners:

OGX Renewing Organ Oil Conditioner

OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Conditioner

Carol’s Daughter Nourishing Conditioner

Tresemme Luxurious Moisture Conditioner

Suave Essentials

Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Conditioner

Deep conditioning your Indian Virgin Hair Extensions

If you want your virgin extensions to last and last you will want to deep condition them pretty often. Deep conditioning treatment infuses your virgin  hair with moisture to penetrate hair cuticles. It is best if you deep condition your extensions at least once or twice monthly to prevent tangling and shedding which will be the result if the hair is dry. Deep conditioning will make your hair and extensions become very soft and silky.

For natural and relaxed hair, conditioning is necessary. A deep conditioning treatment not only penetrates your scalp but also releases natural hair growth vitamins. It is recommended to do a deep conditioning treatment after taking down an install or braids.

How to deep condition your Virgin Hair extensions

I  will now outline two ways to deep condition your virgin hair extensions. The first method shows how to do it  when the extensions are not on your  head. We will call that method 1. The second method will relate how it is done when you are actually wearing them – Method 2.

Method 1 (Microwave method)

  1. place a considerable amount of conditioner onto the hair extensions.
    • You may use the matching conditioners to the shampoos listed head
  2. Rub the conditioner through it. Comb through the extensions, starting from the bottom up.
  3. Place the hair extensions in a freezer bag. After sealing the bag, put it in the microwave for 2 – 2½ minutes.3
  4. You must allow your hair to cool down after being in the microwave, so please wait a few moments for the cooling process.
  5. Before rinsing out the conditioner, thoroughly comb through the extensions again.
  6. Wash out the conditioner until the water becomes clear. No suds should still form.
  7. You may allow the hair extensions to be air-dried, blow-dried, or you may install them while wet. It is up to your discretion.

Method 2 (Virgin Extensions on your head)

  1. Wash your hair with water and conditioner and then apply shampoo, preventing any tangling and matting under water.
  1. Apply an ample amount of deep conditioner on your hair and comb through again.
  2. Cover head with a processing cap.
  3. Sit under a hair dryer for 30 minutes.
  4. Allow the hair to cool
  5. Wash out conditioner and treatment.
  6. Style  as desired.

Let’s Talk Moisturizing Oils!

There are three oils that I want to introduce you to. The chemical make up of these three oils actually enable them to go into your hair strand and moisturize them. It is best if you use these oils along with a water-based leave in conditioner for the best results. The moisturizing oils are:

(A Little Extra!) Protecting from Heat Damage

Although we know that applying heat will damage our virgin hair, we still do it, don’t we? 🙂 I am recommending an excellent heat protection spray that I believe will work wonders in preventing heat damage to your virgin hair. Please, please, do not use hot irons and combs too regularly!

CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray 8 Fl Oz

This is all for now. See you soon! Please comment and let us know any other tried and proven best products for virgin hair that you used on your virgin extensions. Remember, this list is definitely not a complete one. We also crave your feedback to help us improve our website.

Be blessed!

  1. Thank you for your site. It gave so much information on human hair extensions and the proper way to take care of them; I was not aware there is so much to know.  I also was not aware that Indian hair needed so much care as well in general.  Thank you for all the information on the pros and cons; and products that could and could not be used.  Love and Light

  2. Thank you so much for recommending all of this products. My cousin just get her Indian virgin hair extensions, but she almost did a mistake by using her regular shampoo (which contains sulfate). She loves Tresemme brands, so I will recommend both the shampoo and conditioner to her. Thanks again for the information.

    • Thank you very much. Your cousin made a good choice in purchasing Indian Hair. It is good value for money. I use Tresemme myself with very good results. I have no doubts she will be satisfied.

  3. A good great article, you have written about women hair weave and wigs treatments, I have this very stubborn hair it’s very small and hard to grow so most times I have to be on wigs , but sometimes when I use then I get then disposed off because I don’t know how to treat the, but with this your post i ‘ll get them some shampoos and conditional oil just for the treatment  thanks

    • I am very happy I could be of help to you Rose! That was my aim. Yes, these are good quality products that will help you well!

      Thank you

  4. It is a good idea to take good care of the Indian virgin hair extensions because it does not grow directly from our and therefore would lack the necessary oils and stuff needed which might lead to the hair loosing its quality and depreciate in no time. I know few of my friends with natural virgin hair and they do take good care of their natural hair. These Indian virgin hair extensions deserve good care and you did justice with this write-up. You’re fabulous!

    • Aaaawww! Thank you so much! Your friends are doing a great job taking care of their hair! We must if we want our investment to last.
